I could not believe the value of the Island Mango pack I have just received, just the medium candle and stripe are worth the price that you charged me.

How Brett Cameron Doyle Creates His Cartoons

First, Brett had to play a lot of golf. According to him, that was the tough part.

Because golf can be an infinitely frustrating game, the source for Brett’s art-form is never-ending. He’ll get a basic idea – always drawn from his actual experience - then work through some scenarios, and make sketches. Then more sketches – sometimes 20 or more pencil sketches for one scene before he takes the pens out.

Brett always begins his final drawings with a fine-tipped black pen. This helps to define the main lines of the final sketch. The result is a simple line drawing – much like what you would find in a coloring book.

The next step is adding the color. Brett’s weapons of choice happen to be magic markers and colored pencils. To achieve the best results, he’ll go through many shades of the same color – in fact, the grass contains as many as 15 different shades of green – sometimes more.

Brett then creates a high-resolution scan of the finished illustration and imports the image into Photoshop. It’s here where he adds the appearance of depth using color spreads and airbrush tools.

Finally, Brett uses Quark to make the layouts for the final print sizes – and then it’s off to the printers. Each image is printed on superior-quality paper using archival inks.

Each cartoon takes up to 3 weeks. It’s a slow, deliberate process, but with a very rewarding, result.
